Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

£90.00

The Conscious Parent Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is designed for both adults and children.
This simple, non-invasive test helps you understand your family’s mineral balance and potential exposure to heavy metals.
It provides valuable insight into how your body is storing and using key elements — information that standard tests often overlook.

What it can show:
Patterns in essential minerals — calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, and copper — alongside trends in heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminium. These findings help you see how everyday life, stress, diet, and environment may be influencing your internal balance.

It’s a gentle, reliable way to gain clarity about your body’s current state and make more informed choices for your wellbeing.

Please note: If your order includes tests for multiple people, results for all individual tests will be sent to the email address listed on the confirmation email. If you’d like the results sent to a different email, please contact us from the email address used for the order to confirm.

add-on (optional)
The standard HTMA test does not include boron or antimony. If you’d like either included (optional), you can add it here.

  • Boron is a trace mineral that can be relevant in certain contexts, such as targeted bone health questions or when you’re looking more closely at calcium metabolism.
  • Antimony is a trace element that isn’t required by the body and is most commonly associated with modern indoor environments and manufactured materials. Some people choose to include it if they spend a lot of time indoors, live in newer or heavily furnished homes, work with treated materials, or want a broader picture of possible environmental influences.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) offers a simple, non-invasive way to understand how your body — or your child’s — is managing minerals, energy, and stress.
It provides a window into how nutrients and heavy metals are being stored or released over time, giving you practical insight that standard tests may not show.

What HTMA Can Reveal

1. Discover nutritional imbalances:
Find out whether key minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, and copper are in balance. These elements support steady energy, focus, mood, and resilience — and when they’re off, you often feel it before you see it.
2. Heavy metal exposure: Detect trace levels of elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminium, providing awareness of possible environmental or dietary exposure.
3. Energy and stress patterns: See how your body is managing stress at a biochemical level. HTMA reflects how minerals shift when the body is under pressure or in recovery, offering clues about adaptability and overall rhythm.
4. Long-term trends: Unlike a blood test that captures one moment in time, HTMA shows patterns from the past few months — revealing how your system has been functioning and adapting over time.
5. Preventive insight: Spot early signs of imbalance and make informed choices before they start to affect how you feel day to day.

Included:

  • Graph results and mineral ratios plus a comprehensive HTMA reports.
  • Overview of metabolic type.
  • A technical analysis of the disease trends associated with an overview of any minerals that show moderate levels or mineral levels and ratios, plus any nutrient significant deviations from the reference ranges or ratios, contraindications and their potential health implications.
  • Tailored dietary and supplement recommendations

Please ensure that each test is purchased individually and named for the person the test is intended for. If multiple testes are required for multiple people, please buy each test separately with a corresponding contact email. This will ensure that the tests and results are recorded and sent to the correct individual.

Legal Notice

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a laboratory analysis of mineral and/or toxic metal levels. It’s intended as one tool within a broader approach to wellness and isn’t for diagnosing or treating medical conditions. The Conscious Parent doesn’t offer medical advice or diagnose health conditions. For medical questions or concerns, please check in with your doctor.

Why People Choose HTMA

  • Understanding your own terrain:
HTMA helps you see how your body is adapting to daily life — stress, diet, sleep, and environment. It can highlight patterns that affect energy, mood, focus, and recovery, giving you clarity that blood tests sometimes miss.
  • Family insight:
Many families test together to see how shared environment, water quality, or diet may be influencing everyone’s mineral balance. It’s a practical way to understand both individual and collective needs.
  • Environmental awareness:
Modern life exposes all of us to more than we realise. Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminium can enter the body through food, air, or water. Because these can cross the placenta during pregnancy and may also pass through breast milk, parents and parents-to-be often use HTMA to gain awareness of potential exposure.
  • When things feel “off”:
If you’ve been feeling flat, reactive, or fatigued — and conventional tests haven’t offered clear answers — HTMA provides a broader picture of how your body has been functioning over time.
  • Fertility and preconception:
HTMA can also support those preparing for pregnancy, offering an understanding of mineral status and environmental load before conception.
  • Curiosity and prevention:
Some people simply want to know more about how their body works. Regular HTMA testing helps track progress, fine-tune nutrition, and maintain balance before issues appear.

Especially Valuable for Children

HTMA provides a gentle, stress-free option for families wanting to understand their child’s nutritional and mineral status.

  • Quick and easy: Only a small sample of hair is needed from the nape of the neck.
  • Child-friendly: No needles, no discomfort.
  • Informative: Shows how growth, diet, and environment may influence developing mineral patterns.
  • Supportive for families: Many parents choose to test together to see shared environmental or dietary trends.

Because children grow and change quickly, mineral levels can shift in just a few months — making this a valuable snapshot of their current terrain.

The Science Explained

HTMA measures 35 elements, including both essential minerals and trace heavy metals:
Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, phosphorus, iron, manganese, chromium, selenium, cobalt, molybdenum, sulphur, germanium, barium, bismuth, rubidium, lithium, nickel, platinum, thallium, vanadium, strontium, tin, titanium, tungsten, zirconium, uranium, arsenic, beryllium, mercury, cadmium, lead, and aluminium.

After you’ve collected your hair sample, place it in the special envelope provided and return it to the laboratory. Once received, the sample undergoes a precise preparation process before being analysed.

The scientific procedure involves carefully heating and treating the sample with specific acids to break down the hair structure and release its stored elements. Once digested, only the mineral salts remain. These are then diluted in a chemical solution and assessed using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) — a highly sensitive form of spectrometry used to measure elemental concentrations.

This process provides a detailed profile of nutrient levels and long-term patterns of mineral and metal exposure, offering valuable insight into how your body has been regulating and storing key elements over time.
