In the rush of December, it’s the small moments that matter most. For us, it’s gathering in the kitchen, hands wrapped around warm mugs, sharing stories over a simple cup of hot chocolate.
But not just any hot chocolate.
This recipe has become a family favourite—not just because it tastes amazing (the kids are always asking for seconds)! but because it’s filled with ingredients that nourish us.
Why we love it!
Most hot chocolates are loaded with sugar and artificial flavours, but this version is different. Every ingredient works to support your body:
- Collagen: Great for skin, hair, and nails (and perfect for tired parents).
- Raw cacao: Gives it that deep chocolatey flavour the kids love, plus a boost of antioxidants and magnesium.
- Healthy fats: Butter or ghee make it creamy while supporting energy and hormones.
It’s indulgent, yes—but it’s also a little act of care.
The recipe: a hot chocolate that heals
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients (serves 4):
- 4 cups of full-fat milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
- 4 tbsp organic cacao powder
- 4 scoops collagen powder (adjust based on your brand’s serving size recommendation)
- 2 tbsp grass-fed butter or ghee (optional but adds creaminess)
- 2-3 tbsp raw honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of sea salt
Method:
- Warm the milk: Heat it gently in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Avoid boiling.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a small bowl, mix the cacao powder, collagen powder, and sea salt.
- Create a paste: Add a small amount of the warm milk to the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
- Incorporate the paste: Gradually whisk the paste into the saucepan with the remaining milk. Add the butter, honey, and vanilla extract, stirring until fully dissolved.
- Optional froth: Use a frother or whisk for a creamy, frothy texture.
- Serve and enjoy: Pour into four mugs and share!
The kids’ verdict? This has become part of our winter rhythm—cosy evenings, frosty mornings, and always the request: “Can we have the good hot chocolate?”
For them, it’s a treat. For us, it’s a little ritual that nourishes us inside and out. What’s your favourite family ritual?
